Remember the Alamo

Last week we took our first long road trip to San Antonio. I was a little leary, seeing as how Lincoln doesn't like riding in the car for 20 minutes, let alone 4 1/2 hours at a time. But with the upcoming baby, we had no flying options so we had to pick somewhere close.

Amazingly enough, he did pretty good on each leg of the trip. We did get stuck in some Saturday afternoon traffic going through downtown Austin. Here is Ryan paying homage to the Longhorns at UT (their stadium is in the background).

We met my sister and her family down there on Saturday and ventured out to Sea World on Sunday. The weather was perfect and the Spring Break crowd had all gone home. We had good seats at all the shows and no lines for any of the rides. Here is Lincoln waiting to get onto a kiddie ride.

This was handprint art that he made. I thought it was very cute but it got wrinkled on the ride home.

The sea lion show had to have been one of the best parts because they had them out there like actors. Not sure if you can tell but the walrus is doing sit-ups (who knew you could train a walrus to exercise).

My one pregnancy craving (for both of them) is frozen lemonade which, believe it or not, is very hard to find unless you are at a fair. Well, they had them and let me tell you they were delicious!

We were lucky enough to get to catch a short Sesame Street Live show on their last day there.

Here is Shamu and his buddies, very sad that their fins are droopy. Hasn't anyone seen Free Willy.

This is what happens when you keep a 2-year-old awake until 4:00. He missed the dolphin and beluga show. He didn't miss out on much, it was more of a Cirque de Soleil meets Sea World, very strange and not a lot of dolphin tricks.

The dolphin pool was one of my favorite parts. I, however, had difficulty getting close due to my belly. Oh well, I guess I can touch one next time. Lincoln's tears were from grumpiness not scarediness.

If anyone goes to San Antonio, you should definitely take your kids to the Children's Museum which is only a few blocks from the Alamo. Lincoln (and Ryan) had tons of fun. Older kids would have gotten a more educational experience but it was still fun.

Building a log cabin with his dad. Ryan wanted to give up, he said it was too hard.

They even had a real front loader that you could sit and scoop up and dump out rocks.

This was hard to get a picture of because he kept wanting to pop the bubble. This was so neat that we all had to do it.

They had a giant sized pin cushion, we took some whole body impressions. I will spare you my shot, I didn't realize that certain things had gotten so big.

Lincoln as an old west store clerk.

Here he is driving a trolley.

The whole downstairs was a fully working grocery store where the kids could shop and then have someone check them out. I think this was Ryan's favorite part.
Wow, David Robinson is very, very tall.
Here is Lincoln in front of the infamous Alamo. He went up and down the street shouting "Remember the Alamo", it was pretty funny.

We went on a riverboat tour. He wasn't too impressed with the scenery and architecture but we enjoyed it.
Yes, we think it's funny to torture our child. This was at Rainforest Cafe. The animals come alive every 10 minutes and make noise. Let's just say this was the calmest restaurant experience we had all week because he refused to get out of his seat.

There is a great park right in the middle of Market Square that has a great playground. It's so cool because it's right in the middle of the downtown area. Here I am in all my pregnancy glory.

We found a very neat, authentic Mexican restaurant in Market Square that is open 24 hours called Mi Tiera. I would definitely recommend it. They have a great bakery if you just wanted to stop in for coffee and pastries. Here is Ryan enjoying some coffee.
Here is Lincoln enjoying some mexican hot chocolate. I'm not sure what makes it mexican hot chocolate but it is EXCELLENT!

And here is the Huevos Rancheros that I enjoyed.

So that pretty much sums up our San Antonio adventure. We did stop in Allen, TX on our way home to stay the night and do some outlet shopping. It rained pretty much the whole way back from Texas until we reached Atoka. It's hard to believe that the end of our vacation week ended with 7 inches of snow. I will save that for another post!

I'm glad you did this post, we have been talking about taking the kids to San Antonio early in the fall, but weren't sure about it. Also, I heard we are going to be taking Ashley's class together this weekend; I can't wait!!
